Junior Team and Events

Tiger Cubs

The club provides the opportunity for juniors to participate in competitive chess. The club runs a dedicated junior team -the Tiger Cubs, which plays in the adult Edinburgh Chess League (ECL). The Tiger Cubs have been part of the Edinburgh chess scene since the 1990’s and are allowed to play all their ECL matches at home at the Club.

Normally the Tiger Cubs play in the 3rd Division of the leagues. They have on occasion won that division but because there is often a high turnover of players as the better ones move up to senior teams and are replaced by younger ones, they normally don't accept promotion to the higher divisions. This way we ensure that less experienced juniors are able to gain competitive experience at a good introductory level.

The Tiger Cubs also play in the Summer Cup competition, a team event which is run on a handicap basis, and they have been winners of that event on a number of occasions.
