Elaine Rutherford-Bamber WFM

Having entered her first tournament at the age of 7, Elaine, who is the daughter of prominent club member Willie Rutherford, was representing Scotland at junior level within three years. At 16 Elaine became the World Women's Amateur Champion after a strong showing in the Hastings tournament, which also gained her the WFM title. The previous year she had become the first Scottish female to play in the Scottish Championships, which that year included 3 GMs and 6 IMs, and the first Scottish female to win a national Grand Prix Open, coming first equal with GM Colin McNab in the Perth Congress.
